Echo Theatre Presents: A Celebration of Lauren Gunderson!
Natural Shocks: A One-Woman Play in a Tornado by Lauren Gunderson
Directed by Sasha Maya Ada
Featuring Liz Sankarsingh (Leslie Patrick as Understudy)
An insurance agent, a gun, and a tornado walk into a basement. It’s a comedy…until it isn’t.
Insurance agents aren’t supposed to be funny, but what can you do except crack jokes when you’re trapped in your basement with a gun and an impending tornado? Angela is a fast-talking woman filled with mostly-true stories about her mother, her husband, and how likely you are to actually die in a tornado. Based on Hamlet's “To be or not to be,” Natural Shocks is a 60-minute, one-woman tour-de-force that is part confessional, part stand up, and part reckoning, spiraling towards a conclusion you’ll never forget.
Content warnings for language, blood, gun violence, and discussions of domestic violence.

I and You by Lauren Gunderson
Directed by Eric Berg
Featuring Olivia Cinquepalmi and Tyler Lang (Carrie Viera and Reginald Keith Dunlap II as Understudies) A classic boy-meets-girl-meets-Walt Whitman story.
Caroline doesn’t do school. And she HATES poetry. Home-bound due to a life-threatening illness, Caroline has isolated herself in her room as she awaits an organ transplant, which seems fated to never arrive. But then classmate Anthony, a devoted Walt Whitman enthusiast, bursts into her life armed with an urgent homework assignment, waffle fries, and his own vivacious love of life. A play about life, love, and how a mundane school project on "Leaves of Grass" can grow into a life-altering event.
