Auditions: Aug 19 and 20, XSR: DIE at Pegasus Theatre

AUDITION NOTICE

As theater-makers, we hold ourselves accountable to practices that will ensure that Pegasus Theatre is an inclusive, diverse, equitable, and actively anti-racist organization, both on-stage and off. Moving forward, you will see the same diversity on the audition team that we hope to see on stage. We will charge our directors to be “diversity conscious” in their casting. With the help of our Diversity Advocate, we will strive to make the audition room a safe space for all, regardless of age, race, color, gender identity, disability, religion, veteran status, national origin, or sexual orientation. We welcome you!

Auditions for the RadioVizion™ presentation of "XSR: Die!", a comedy murder-mystery by Kurt Kleinmann, will be held on August 19th (1 - 5 pm) and 20th (3 - 7 pm) with Callbacks on Tuesday, August 22 (starting at 7 pm). The production will open on October 12th and run through October 28th at the Bath House Cultural Center. The audition location is TBA. We will send you, by e-mail, that information along with the audition sides. Your audition will consist of reading scenes with a reader we will provide for the auditions.

Raymond Banda will direct. The script has been adapted for RadioVizion™ by John Harvey.

RadioVizion™ is an alternative technique devised by Pegasus Theatre for the presentation of the Living Black & White™ series of Harry Hunsacker adventures. RadioVizion™ does not employ the trade-secret makeup but instead focuses on recreating the experience and glamour of being in a live radio studio of the 1930s and 1940s. Live sound effects, actors with scripts in hand at period-style live microphones, and costumes evocative of the era complete the effect.

The Story--The action takes place backstage at a Broadway theatre. It’s the opening night of a new play by famed playwright, Clayton Farrell. The tyrannical director, Douglas Mallory, wants to make a last-minute change to the climactic scene of the play. A shot rings out and someone falls dead! Fortunately for the killer, Harry Hunsacker (would-be actor turned would-be detective) stumbles into the wrong theatre, and things get a whole lot more complicated!

The roles of Harry Hunsacker, Nigel Grouse, and Lt. Foster have been cast.

We will, however, be looking for understudies.

HARRY HUNSACKER - A would-be actor-turned-would-be detective. Not exactly the brightest guy in the world — not stupid —but really wrapped up in his own world at times. He is childlike without being childish.

NIGEL GROUSE - Harry’s hired “Dr. Watson.” Fortunately for Harry, Nigel is intelligent and a pretty good detective. A recovered alcoholic and former actor. Nigel’s attitude towards Harry is that of an older, protective brother. He is never condescending to Harry and always tries to gently guide Harry to the solution.

LT. FOSTER - The “old pro” of the force — a real detective. He really doesn’t know why he personally hasn’t killed Hunsacker...yet. He likes Grouse and recognizes his abilities.

Available Roles: All roles are open to BIPOC actors. All roles will be paid. The specific ages listed are for reference. This, after all, is “radio” and all that’s necessary is that you be able to sound like the character.

MARGO TYLER - A “grand actress” of the stage. She has reached the point in her career where she will be cast as the ingenue’s mother. But don’t tell her that! 40s

EDDIE WILSON - The prop boy. He loves theatre. Someday, he’d like to be an actor — maybe even a star — but for now he’s content to be around the magic. Late teen to early 20s.

ERIC DEVIN - The Broadway leading man. The male equivalent of Margo Tyler. His is a carefully calculated image — his shoes have lifts, his shoulders are padded, he wears corrective make-up just to look his age, and there’s no telling if his hair is his. 50S +

DOUGLAS MALLORY - The tyrannical director. He is the stereotypical dictator for real. It would be a difficult task to find someone who didn’t want to kill him. Of course, no one would ever let him know this. 50 - 60s

CLAYTON FARRELL - The great playwright. Once, his name meant pure gold at the box office. Audiences and critics alike couldn’t wait for the next Clay Farrell script. But lately his name has been the kiss of death. He needs a hit desperately — he might even kill for it. Late 40s.

JEAN HUDSON - The “ingenue from a small town” on The Great White Way. But she’s not a weak-willed, naive fluff of a girl, she’s a woman. She possesses a fresh charm — an unself-conscious sexuality. Mid-20s

ROSEMARY DOLINSKI - Margo Tyler’s long-suffering dresser. She’s been with Margo for years. No one can explain why — least of all Rosemary. She’s seen enough over the years to make you wonder why she hasn’t killed Margo. Too bad she can’t tell Margo off — she’s a mute. 40s

GUS WINSLOW - The Stage Manager. He’s never seen without his sweater vest, baggy pants, and crumpled hat. He drinks a lot of coffee. It’s probably rare to actually see him work, but somehow he manages to get his job done. He’s a fixture. And, of course, he’s seen all the “greats.” 60 - 70
