Please prepare a 16-bar vocal audition in the style of the show (disco/soul).  The audition will also include cold-readings from the script. 

Story:

Deloris Van Cartier, a famous disco singer, is put into witness protection in a convent. While struggling through the restrictions of her new lifestyle, she finds comfort in the churchs choir and while there ends up inspiring the church and community.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

Deloris Van Cartier------This lead role has been cast.

Mother Superior---(Mezzo-soprano) The head of the convent, sarcastic, protective, age 50-70

Sister Mary Robert---(Soprano) A postulant, abandoned as a baby and raised at the convent, shy, soft-spoken, age 16-25

Sister Mary Patrick---(Soprano) Consistently perky, enthusiastic, excitable, age 35-50

Sister Mary Lazarus---(Mezzo-soprano) Head of the choir, deadpan, unwelcoming, age 50-70

Monsignor O’Hara---(Baritone) One of the heads of the convent, concerned with money matters, age 45-60

Curtis---(Baritone) Deloris’ boyfriend, a club owner and gangster, violent, controlling, age 30-40

Eddie Souther---( Tenor) The policeman who gets Deloris into hiding, harbors an unrequited love for her, sweats profusely, age 25-35

TJ---(Tenor) Curtis ’nephew and one of his thugs, age 16-30

Joey---(Tenor) One of Curtis’ thugs, thinks he’s a ladies’ man, age 30-40

Pablo---(Tenor) One of Curtis’ thugs, constantly speaks Spanish

Sister Mary Martin-of-Tours---(featured, non-singing) lives in her own world (most of the time), age 40-60

Sister Mary Theresa---(featured, non-singing) The oldest nun, decrepit but packs a punch. Age 60-70

Michelle---(Mezzo-soprano) One of Deloris’ back-up singers, lippy, quick with a retort, age 20-30

Tina---(Mezzo-soprano) One of Deloris’ back-up singers, thick and naïve, age 20-30

Ernie---(Featured, non-singing) One of Curtis’ thugs, initially thought to be a yes-man, turns out to be an undercover cop, age 25-35

Ensemble--- additional nuns, people at the bar, homeless people, fantasy dancers
