Along with his talented team, Dr. Sam Germany, Director & Conductor, has assembled a thoroughly charming show. The musical, based on J.M. Barrie’s timeless tale of the eternally youthful Peter Pan, has found new life in the pixie-dusted musical production courtesy of the Family Musical Theatre (Music & Lyrics by Carolyn Leigh & Morris Chaplap). From the first chords of the overture, the audience transports to wherever the story leads.
The excellent live orchestra paired with picturesque sets, storybook lighting and projections, and fully-realized costumes presents a cohesive and immersive environment for our adventure with Pan and the Darlings (Scenic/Artistic Design, Light Design, Motion Graphics, and Costume Design by Abigail Craven, Paul Sollenberger, Averie Luna, and Kristia Golightly, respectively).
The cast boasts a wealth of talent. Chloe Balthrop dazzles as the magical Peter Pan. Balthrop’s boyish embodiment perfectly captures the youthful bravado of the lively leader of the feisty and fun loving Lost Boys (A group of fine and entertaining young actors played by Charlie Barry, Joshua Crawford, Isabel Garmon, Caleb Stumper, and Griffin McFerrin Hogan ). The Darling children, Wendy, John, and Michael, add to the fun as they adventure through the unknown world of Neverland with Peter (Played by Mabry Marchbanks, Jonathan Flach, and Sherrod Baltrop, respectively). As Pan’s archnemesis, Jacob Zufelt shines comedically and vocally as the scheming Captain Hook (Zufelt also doubles in the role of Mr. Darling with similar success). With a glance, he could send the audience into a fit of laughter. The entire group populates the fantastical world of Neverland with ease and excellence – full of silly pirates, fearsome warriors, and a tick-tocking crocodile!
Your heart will truly “fly on wings” after seeing this production. Please don’t miss your chance to see Peter Pan by Family Musical Theatre runs at the New Vida Center in Dallas, TX, Friday November 8 through Sunday November 23.
