News: Upright Theatre Co.'s MUSICAL THEATRE CABARET cultivates teenage talents!

For Teens!

Today was a very special day for a few DFW teens and their families at Upright Theatre Co. in Euless. As I continue to grow closer with the individuals and creatives at Upright, I've grown more and more interested in what they have to offer the community. The joy of storytelling and musical expression is usually prevalent in us at a very young age; such was case with the talented youth at today's Cabaret! As an educator, a writer and an artist, I can attest to the importance of nurturing this journey for students and guiding them in appropriate discipline practices, which ultimately leads to their own independent discoveries and routines. 

Many Theatre communities offer this for our children! As a matter of fact, there are more than we can count in the DFW area, especially as we inch closer to Summer Vacation! (Parents, are you ready?!) But, as each new Summer program comes across my email inbox, there are few that offer such high quality instruction at an affordable cost! Today was a very special day! A day when a few young, aspiring Musical actors (aged 12-16) showcased weeks of hard work and found a little more confidence in their own passions and abilities. In the weeks prior to today's performance, the students met at the theater to rehearse an audition solo, (which they can add to their repertoire of audition materials) and an ensemble piece, representing collaboration in performance art. Both absolutes in our industry, as it were! 

Parents, Grandparents, family, friends and little ol' audience members like me saluted them for the beauty of their work and their bravery! Instructors Megan Guerra and Hayden Casey have done a fabulous job of encouraging and fostering a love for musical theatre and performance in these young scholars, whom I'm eager to see grace many stages in the near future!
