Rover Dramawerks’ current production of Double Cut by Alfred Shaughnessy is a
suspenseful play directed by Sara Jones (and AD by Andie Pace), that centers on a
young diamond heiress, Olivia Prescott, who has retreated to her family’s Spanish villa
to lead a solitary life following the deaths of her brother and father. Mysteriously, her
brother Ward, reappears to her utter disbelief. She emphatically challenges his identity
although the man seems to know everything about Ward, their sibling history together,
and details only Ward himself would know. All seems to be an astonishing coincidence,
but is it? As the story unfolds, the intrigue builds and all is revealed in the end with a
twist you won’t see coming.

Bryn Hottman (Oliva) is a head-strong young woman with a tinge of anxiety and
nerves. She embodies the character with ease and focus. She has a warm relationship
with her uncle Charles, played by Scott Hickman, and have great chemistry together.
Upon the departure of Charles after a formal party one evening, Ward Prescott, played
by Aidan Fenton, enters through an open French door. Fenton is dashing and
intentional as the brother-returned-from-the-dead and believably conveys what
happened to him, why he has returned, and he never waives in his demeanor or
sincerity. Even as Oliva involves local police officers (Ana Ortega-Williams and
Sunnie Saenz) to prove that something is amiss, they are unable to deny his identity.
Interestingly, Ward has fired Oliva’s maid (also played by Saenz) and replaced her with
a new manservant Carlos, humorously played by Andy Beckman, and who is
accompanied by the suspicious Elaine Whitman, masterfully played by Lucia A. Welch.

Master Carpenter, Bill Wash, created a stunning set for this play with Scenic Painting
by Reagan Wren. Costume Design by Kerra Sims beautifully complimented the stage
design, as did Lighting Design by Catherine M. Luster, and perfect sound design by
Geoffrey Dail.
