At first blush, a musical titled “Cleavage” sounds like clickbait, but trust me, it’s so much more.

Conceived by Dallas plastic surgeon Dr. Ron Friedman and co-written with Laura Goodenow,

cleaVage has been described as “Hamilton with breasts” by Texas Monthly, and Dr. Friedman himself has shared in many interviews that he was inspired by a viewing of Hamilton to write it.

CleaVage is at it’s foundation a thoroughly researched history play depicting key medical, social, political, and international developments spanning 1962 through current day.

“Directed by Rebecca Lowrey (CEO of MusicalWriters.com), the show takes the little-known history of breast implants and blows it up to larger-than-life proportions through song, dance, and unflinching comedy.” It’s the word “unflinching” that is particularly on point in MusicalWriters.com’s description of their world premier production of cleaVage.

The show is FUNNY. The refrains are catchy, the lyrics are clever. Choreography by Christina Kudlicki makes impressive use of a diverse, talented cast and full band in a small space.

But the funny doesn’t diminish or dismiss the gravity of certain plot points, instead the buoyant approach makes discussion of difficult side effects more accessible.

Songs such as "The Perfect Match," "Consequences," "It’s My Choice," and "Breast Buffet" deftly expound on relevant medical and legal issues such that you may find yourself making a mental list of topics to Google later… but they are also just plain fun to experience live.

On October 2, 2025, cleaVage presented an exclusive preview performance to benefit Women Rock, a North Texas nonprofit dedicated to supporting breast cancer survivors, and all proceeds from merchandise sales during the run of show will also benefit Women Rock - if you enjoy the show and want to support buy a t-shirt!

cleaVage continues through October 18. As of this writing, the full run is sold out, but a waiting list and standby opportunities are available. Visit LCTTheColony.com and MusicalWriters.com for information and updates.

Cheers!
Jenny
