Storytime on Friday night was a little different than my usual bedtime routine. I didn't tuck my kids into bed and read Because of Winn Dixie or get my younger son his second cup of water for the night. This time, it was me being told the bedtime story, which was anything but Winn Dixie wholesome.

Dallas Comedy Club hosted a unique evening of storytime with note-worthy comedians. Comedians  delivered one of their most iconic stories and DCC's Improv Troupe performed an awkwardly funny improv inspired by each comedian's story. 

Three hilarious story-tellers were chosen; Jamie Campbell among them!

Jamie is becoming a heavyweight comedian in his own right, with credits to his name as long as my arm. Credits like "Best Stand Up," "Best Comedy" and "Best of Fringe." His punch lines punch straight to the point and his humor is relatable to anyone who's experienced their first day at life. His unexpected, sometimes twisted responses to real life situations are endearing and all too familiar. 

So, just what his story? Damn, I wish you'd been there to hear it! LSD meets Magic Kingdom! For those of us who grew up in the "War on Drugs" era, President Bush Sr.'s efforts only fueled our curiosity on drugs, the types of drugs and what exactly it meant to be "high." Growing up as a church-going little girl, I didn't have the guts (or maybe the idiocracy?) to try drugs, so I lived vicariously through the stories of others. I tended to believe everything my grown-ups told me was true, like (Jamie's words,) how I'd "try it for the first time and then be selling my body on the street for my next fix!" I didn't dare touch the stuff.  Jamie and his high school buddies, though, did! An overnight Disney World trip with a Backstreet Boys concert leads to the singers looking like giant dancing lizards, asking "Am I sex-u-al?"

Jamie's stories build with humorous intensity and suspense, leaving us with mouths agape while we listen on the edge of our seat, then shaking our head at the resolution. His colorful imagery is charming and his naturally sympathetic language disarms any preconceived expectations you may have had. Is this guy funny, like for real funny? I assure you, he is a comedy genius!
