ABOUT THE SHOW:

In the Heights tells the universal story of a vibrant community in New York’s Washington Heights neighborhood – a place where the coffee from the corner bodega is light and sweet, the windows are always open and the breeze carries the rhythm of three generations of music. It’s a community on the brink of change, full of hopes, dreams and pressures, where the biggest struggles can be deciding which traditions you take with you, and which ones you leave behind.

by Ellsworth Schave

Appointments are required. For an appointment, please include your full name and choose your preferred time via Signup Genius: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090549AEAB29A20-64343228-auditions

Auditions will be at Reclamation Church, located at 901 Cross Bend Rd. in Plano, at the northwest corner of Alma and Cross Bend.

Brief Synopsis:
It’s 1928 and Daisy Wilson has been a widow since her philandering husband was shot by his mistress (an action for which she has some sympathy). In her small Texas town, romance reenters Daisy’s life when she finds Garland Steinholden in the front yard awaiting permission to call on her, to her older sister’s chagrin. Daisy must balance her anger and fear with her need for intimacy and her determination to have a second chance while deciding if Garland is a worthy cause, as he politely but relentlessly pursues her. (romantic comedy)

Roles: 2 women and 1 man
Daisy Wilson - A widow. The actor playing this role should be believable as noticeably older than the actor who plays George. Attractive, well-kept, speaks her mind. She spent 12 years as the embarrassed wife of a philandering husband. Since his death she has thought much and deeply. She is at the same time pragmatic, awakened and cautious. In the presence of Garland Steinholden she is at once angry, curious and seductive.

Doris Perdue - The actor playing this role should be believable as Daisy's older sister. Doris is dreadfully honest about everything. She cares passionately for her sister, her husband and her (ancestral) home, but not necessarily in that order. Though childless at this time in her life, she is not short on maternal instincts. Doris, in the play, often gets a little tangled up in her “misery”, causing the audience to get a little tangled up in her comedy.

Garland Steinholden - A young man (the character states that he is 21). Energetic, “true-blue”, polite, sensitive, reverent, slow to anger, has “gravity” and a strong sense of who he is, focused and conscientious, works at his father’s lumberyard, but has a plan for something better.

**Character ages are what the actor can realistically play.**

All roles are available.
