Dallas, TX – Dallas Children’s Theater (DCT) is proud to announce the appointment of Cheryl Lowber as Director of Youth Programming. An accomplished actor, director, and educator with deep roots in the Dallas–Fort Worth theater community, Lowber brings both professional expertise and a genuine passion for young performers to one of DCT’s most vital leadership roles.
Lowber’s appointment comes on the heels of her triumphant direction of DCT’s summer student production of Matilda Jr., which sold out all three of its performances — a powerful testament to her ability to bring out the best in young artists and create the kind of theater that Dallas audiences don’t want to miss.
“The sold-out run of Matilda Jr. spoke for itself — the energy, the artistry, and the sheer joy on that stage made it clear that Cheryl is exactly the kind of leader DCT’s youth programs deserve. We are thrilled to welcome her to our team in this permanent role,” said Michael Meadows, Executive Director of Dallas Children’s Theater.
The appointment comes at an exciting moment of momentum for DCT’s youth programs. As the organization prepares to re-launch its full class offerings in Summer 2027, Lowber’s arrival is a signal of the direction DCT is heading — one centered on mentorship, artistic excellence, and the kind of real-world skills that only live theater can teach.
“Cheryl’s appointment is so exciting for DCT artistically. Several of us on staff saw her production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at NTPA and were so impressed by the clarity and physical embodiment of the text. Cheryl spent two years in Asia working as an educator, and brings international experience to Dallas, as well as her work as a classically trained working actor who can speak about the business first-hand. We are honored to have her on this team!” said Emily Ernst, Artistic Director of Dallas Children’s Theater.
Lowber holds an M.F.A. in Acting from SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts, where she also taught undergraduate courses in the Art of Acting. She has appeared on stages across DFW, New York City, and internationally, including South Korea, and has directed close to 30 youth productions over the past six years.
Her extensive background in arts education includes serving as Managing Director for North Texas Performing Arts (NTPA) Dallas and Head of Acting for the NTPA Academy. She recently served as Assistant Theatre Director at Lake Highlands High School. Lowber’s regional acting credits span some of the most respected stages in North Texas, including Dallas Theater Center, Shakespeare Dallas, Stage West, Classics Theatre, Theatre Three, and many others.
