Runway Theatre is excited to hold auditions for The Best Christmas Pageant Ever by Barbara Robinson. Runway's production will be directed by Amy Jackson and the production will run December 4-20, 2026.

Seeking 6F/4M adult characters and up to 10F/10M children
ADULT ROLES:
Grace Bradley (Female-presenting: 35-45): a genial and kind, but equally overwhelmed parishioner who takes over the annual Christmas pageant; mother to Beth and Charlie; wife to Bob.
Bob Bradley (Male-presenting: 35-45): husband to Grace and father to Beth and Charlie. A solid family man, though a bit distracted.
Mrs. Armstrong (Female-presenting: 35-50s): managerial, in voice and manner; bossy, and impatient but well-meaning.
Mrs. Slocum (Female-presenting: 35-60): a pleasant, motherly woman who is part of the parish women's auxiliary.
Mrs. Clark (Female-presenting: 35-60+): another pleasant, motherly woman who is part of the parish women's auxiliary.
Mrs. Clausing (Female-presenting: 35-60+): yet another pleasant, motherly woman who is part of the parish women's auxiliary.
Mrs. McCarthy (Female-presenting: late 30's-40s): a younger, less imperious version of Mrs. Armstrong.
Reverend Hopkins (Male-presenting: 40s+): a nervous-about-most-everything pastor; must be able to sing and lead the children's choir.
Firefighters (Male-presenting: 30-50's): ready for any fire - casting multiple firefighters of all shapes and sizes; will double as parishioners and husbands in group scenes.
YOUTH ROLES:
Beth Bradley (Female-presenting: 12-16): the show’s narrator; Grace/Bob’s daughter. Beth needs a strong voice and stage presence; is in most scenes dealing with a range of moods and situations.
Charlie Bradley (Male-presenting: 7-10): Beth’s brother - the typical kid brother.
Ralph Herdman (Male-presenting 12-14): the oldest Herdman; ragged, scroungy, slouching manner, touch of adolescent cool.
Imogene Herdman (Female-presenting: 11-13): loud, bossy, tough, crafty. The Herdman leader.
Leroy Herdman (Male-presenting 10-12): tough, very sure of himself.
Claude Herdman (Male presenting 8-10): tough, combative. A crime buddy to Ollie.
Ollie Herdman (Male or Female-presenting 8-10): tough, combative. A crime buddy to Claude.
Gladys Herdman (Female-presenting: 7-8): small, wiry, feisty. Often funny; sometimes means it.
Alice Wendleken (Female-presenting: 13-15): prim, proper, pain in the neck.
Maxine (Female-presenting: 13-16): Beth’s church Sunday school classmate.
Elmer (Male-presenting 12-13): the minister’s son; dislikes church; not fond of the Herdmans.
Hobie, David, Beverly, Juanita, Doris etc: the children's ensemble of various ages, 6-12
Production Synopsis: The story only a community could tell. What happens when the worst kids in town hijack the annual Christmas pageant? Unexpected magic. Total chaos. And a whole lot of laughs. The Herdman siblings may be wild, but they just might help everyone rediscover what this season is all about. A classic holiday comedy for families of every shape, size, and level of patience.
