Coming Up: Youth Camp opportunity, Dallas Children's Theater's MATILDA JR. Your kid has never been to camp like this!
Here's some very exciting news for Dallas Children's Theater and those of us who love to see our kids onstage killing it! Experienced Director Cheryl Lowber will direct a full production performance camp with rising 4th-12th graders. Rehearsals begin June 22 and performance run is July 10-12. Lowber brings with her extensive knowledge and expertise in her director's toolkit, most recently a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream that Artistic Director, Emily Ernst describes as "the strongest youth production I have ever seen...The work was clear, physically dynamic, and on par with, and in some cases stronger than, several adult productions I’ve seen. Her students demonstrated a deep understanding of the text and, just as importantly, so much joy in the work. Cheryl teaches theatre at Lake Highlands High School, performs professionally throughout Dallas, and brings rigor and warmth to the rehearsal room. I cannot recommend her highly enough."
Nearly every theater in DFW offers youth productions, but none of this caliber. While many camps are run by parent volunteers, Matilda Jr. offers a fully professional production team, including Lowber and Music Director Adam Wright.
A production camp is also offered for those who want to know more about what a production looks like behind the scenes. Taught by DCT production manager, technical director, sound engineer, and costume shop manager, this program introduces participants to lighting, costumes, carpentry, props, and stage management. Students will serve as part of the backstage crew under the supervision of professionals.
Classes will fill up quickly, so book your kiddo's spot ASAP!
